Reading Fluency Center

Picture

The Reading Fluency Center is a volunteer reading program at Highland Park that offers 1st through 5th graders 1:1 fluency practice. Trained volunteers meet with our students to read phrases and stories, and complete related exercises.

Students showing a need for fluency practice are identified by our reading specialists and Language Arts teachers. The kids meet 1:1 with a trained parent or grandparent volunteer each week. Our reading specialists and teachers consider student progress throughout the school year, and may exit students from the Fluency Center, as appropriate. Similarly, new students showing a need may be added to the program throughout the school year.

All volunteers attend a training session at the beginning of the school year. They must also pass an AISD background check and adhere to student privacy guidelines. Parent consent is required for students to participate in the program.
